Dutch scientist Ed de Vogel was first to discover bizzare behaviour of Bulbophyllum nocturnum. It would open shortly after dusk, stay in bloom for about 12 hours and wither after sunrise.

I am not sure if I would like that one in my collection, I actually like orchids for their long lasting flowers.
With Bulbophyllum nocturnum it is not the case...
I tend to agree with you that this is one orchid I’ll keep out of my personal collection but you have to agree that it’s quite fascinating.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that some claim that the Dendrobium amboinense also flowers solely at night? That’s actually only a rumor that has not been substantiated by credible sources.
