Paphiopedilum Deperle

Paph. Deperle still has two blooms holding. I checked the records - it started blooming at the end of November, so 3 months in bloom - not too bad for paphiopedilum.
Yesterday watering it I discovered totally new growth coming out from the bush:



I am pretty happy with this purchase, most of my paphs are usually sulking along...

Paph. Lady Isabel update

I think my Lady Isabel maybe is getting ready to bloom.

It significantly improved since I placed some sphagnum moss on the top of the bark in its pot and moved it into orchid tank. The color of the laves is still lime green but they are fleshy and strong.
The leaf span is 26 inch now:



Another thing I noticed - small green nub at the base:



I think it is a new fan starting...

Neofinetia falcata 'Shojo'

Was watering plants and noticed start of a new growth on Neofinetia:



It is getting clumpier and clumpier. I have repotted it into plastic pot because it was drying out too fast in the clay pot. Now it is a fifth fan started on it and this time on the right side. All the previous growths were concentrated on the left for some reason:



Still didn't get any more neos, there is always something else that takes priority, plus they are not exactly cheap...

Phrag. besseae

Phrag besseae finished blooming and I cut off the spike. Now, I think it is busy growing a new fan.
I have no problem with it, but what is up with such hanging out of the pot?



I mean, at some point new fan will start growing roots, where those roots would go?

New phrags, what is going on.

I had my new phrags for couple weeks now. One of them bloomed, other is growing a bud. I really like besseae and its hybrids so I want to keep an eye on these two "test plants" to see if they will progress or decline and decide if I want to buy more when the shipping season restarts.
So, here are my observations.

Phrag besseae has one old growth which does nothing and one new growth which currently blooms. Through the walls of clear pot I can see quite a few nice green roots with growing points:



Blooming fan also started new rooots at the base:



And there is a green nub of the new fan coming out:



Phrag. Eric Young has four fans: two in the middle are old previously bloomed fans, two others - one in the front and one on the back are new. This plant didn't have any green roots with fresh growing point, all roots were brown but firm and not mushy.
New fan at the front currently grows a bud:



It also has started new root at the base and a new fan:



Back fan didn't spike yet but it is busy, two new green nubs poked out and one of them already has tiny leaves. Although direction of the growth is somewhat strange:



Two old growths have some white formations at the base too, but they don't look like the green new fan starts yet, so I am not sure what will come out of them, if anything:



All in all both plants look happy in the tank. I water them every day with rain water and keep their pots in the saucers with rain water which I change every day too.
Let's see their status in a month...

Neofinetia falcata `Shojo`

I already mistaken the new fan for a spike twice before on my Neofinetia falcata 'Shojo'.

This time she decided to give me two new puzzles at once:



At this moment the new growths look different to me, so I really hope that the top one will become a spike eventually.
But I was terribly wrong about these things before, so - just patiently waiting...

Cattleya tigrina

Phals are not the only group that likes my orchid tank.
Look at Cattleya tigrina, her two new pseudobulbs are growing much fatter and taller than all the previous and roots are bursting out of the pot:





Being right under the lights pseudobulbs don't need to lean anywhere and are growing straight up. There is a lot of purple pigmentation on the new leaves, I hope it is ok and wouldn't harm my tigrina:




I wonder if there is a tiny possibility that any of these two bulbs might bloom when mature... That would be awesome.

Bl. Morning Glory

I think my Bl. Morning Glory is probably approaching blooming size:



New pseudobulbs come out fat and start to develop white papery stuff inside. It resides now in the orchid tank very close to the lights.
I like plants habit to grow upright, it doesn't take that much of horizontal space. Recently I noticed two more new pseudobulbs started in there:



I am hoping these two will bloom when mature.

Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana II

There is a lot of activity going on the two spikes of my Phal. lueddemanniana II:



One spike is growing a keiki plus activated spike tip and the lower node, hopefully there will be blooms in future. Keiki grows well, it has its very own root and started the second one on the back:



The other spike is growing a bud and activated two lower nodes, probably branches with more buds will come out:



I also noticed the start of a new leaf, hope plant has enough energy to handle all these growings.

Laelia sincorana var. coerulea

My little plant of Laelia sincorana var. coerulea is still alive. It finished growing two new pseudobulbs started in September and now I discovered yet one more start:



Looking through the pictures on the web, it seems that my plant is not very far from blooming size.
I placed it into orchid tank hoping that bright, warm and humid conitions will help it to grow faster.

Phalaenopsis Mancervi

Here is another victim of low-light conditions in humidity trays. It arrived back in July with a new leaf just starting up and here what became of it:



Unproportionally long comparing to the previous leaves.
Now in the tank it is starting the new one:



Would be interesting to see how it will turn out.

Cattleya schilleriana

One of not too many cattleyas I am really excitied about is schilleriana.
My seedling from Clouds is doing great. It grew whole bunch of roots and now started a new pseudobulb:



It is a small species, so maybe after this new bulb matures - I will get some blooms?



This catt is pretty demanding about conditions and likes high humidity, bright light and temp changes between day and night. All these requirements are met in the orchid tank, so I moved there my schilleriana together with cattleya bicolor and couple other non-phal plants.

That place is getting really crowded...

Cattleya tigrina

I got this seedling over a year ago from Clouds.



Since fall 2011 it has been growing nicely even though I managed to burn some of it on the full sun right at the beginning, so couple of leaves on the old pseudobulbs were discarded. Plant forgivingly one-by-one grew couple of new ones.

This time around - it started two new growths at the same time:



I am not sure how big plant has to be to flower, hoping that when these new growths mature, maybe I will get some blooms...

Weird growth on Coral Isles x corningiana

There was a spike from the beginning on my Phalaenopsis Coral Isles x corningiana. Spike was small and not active.
Recently it activated and here is what came out of it:

What does it try to grow? I am clueless.

George is growing a new leaf!

Just like the title states, I was passing by the place where Phalaenopsis I-Hsin George hangs on his mount and noticed a start of a new leaf:



It now gets a lot of light and I am trying to not let the root ball dry out too much. Hopefully mounting this huge phal was not a huge mistake.

Phalaenopsis Vio Vio

After blooming for pretty long time Phal. Vio Vio shedded its spike and took a break.
Now it looks like the break is over - it started to grow a new leaf:



New roots are coming along too (I find it very funny when they start coming out of pot):



Vio Vio is one of my favorite hybrids, I hope it will grow new spike for me soon.

Dendrobium cochliodes

Three seedlings of Dendrobium cochliodes:



Each of them is now showing the signs of new growth:



It is strange because I am not very good with dendrobiums and even worse with dendrobium seedlings.



They grow pretty large so my babies have long way before blooming.

Bulbo news again

Bulbophyllum is a new genera that I am trying to grow now.

Bulbophyllum ambrosia is my test case. It survived some scale and started new pseudobulb since arriving here.

Well, new pseudobulb has already unfolded the leaf:




Yesterday, when watering, I noticed yet another new growth, but this time - on the oldest pseudobulb:



I like how small and cute the plant is. I am not sure if this active growing proves that it likes my conditions, but at least it doesn't die.

My next bulbo purchase will be Bulbophyllum frostii - another cute mini with flowers resembling dutch shoes.

Phalaenopsis bellina III problem continued.

Turns out that it probably wasn't a problem.

The yellow leaf did shed successfully, plant didn't die and now look, there is a start of a new leaf:



It almost seems that my bellina III is only allowed to have three leaves at the time, so she had to loose the oldest one before starting to grow the new one.
Weird...

Vanda coerulea is growing

I moved Vanda coerulea from chc, arranging it the same way as larger vandas - plastic net pots between roots and sphagnum on the top.
