Another pollination ...

About a week ago I cross-pollinated amboinensis and violacea alba. I didn't think it will work because both flowers were several weeks old and I just wanted to practise.
Violacea flower dropped right next day, but amboinensis bloom is still holding and I can see the signs of starting pod:

It is quite exciting, but I am worried that since the blooms were old - pod might grow empty and it will be just unnecessary stress on the plant.
Anyway, here is what the cross would be if everything works out:

Phal. violacea alba

Violacea alba opened second flower:

Notice how the color of the bloom changes with time loosing some green.

I repotted it because couldn't stand old dirty moss, plant didn't complain and continued to bloom.

Phal. volacea var. alba

After many months of waiting and several blasted buds I finally have a bloom on Phal. violacea 'alba':

By now it already has not one but three spikes that all grow in the same direction and look sort of crowded.
There is one more bud growing, but I am not sure if it will flower or just blast as always.
I think bloom looks nice, I like white flowers with green edges or green tips. The fragrance is pleasant too.
All in all it probably was worth waiting.

Violacea alba

New leaf on the phalaenopsis violacea 'alba' is coming out pretty long, although a bit wider than the previous one:

I thought that with abundance of bright light plant would grow round leaves but that didn't happen.
Also not knowing better, I think, I was changing plants orientation a lot and leaf comes out all swirly. I am trying now to keep it at the same place, turned to the same side, hopefully leaf will straighten out.

Anyway, this post is not about the leaf. It is about a new spike that I discovered while watering my violacea alba. Here it is above the lowest leaf on the right:

For some reason plant didn't want to activate perfectly good and green old spike, but decided to grow this new one.
I already lost count of all the new spikes I discovered lately, but am getting really good at recognizing them from the first sight.

Phal. violacea var. alba

Violacea alba was producing long and narrow leaves. I think it was an issue with cultivation, either not enough light or moisture or something else maybe...

Now it is in the orchid tank with quite bright light and pretty moist air. New leaf just started and I am wondering if it will come out long and narrow too.

Also I am hoping that it will activate the spike and bloom sometime soon...

Phal. violacea alba

Phalaenopsis violacea again. This time it is var. alba.
There are two spikes, not active at the moment.

I am really making an effort to log here all the plants that I have, so they are all "catalogued" with pictures.
