I wanted to try to do the spike progress post as video instead of picture:

Vanda pumila

Vanda pumila in August 2011 when I just got it:

Vanda pumila now:

Roots totally covered and consumed little log that it was mounted on so I had to put it somewhere to keep roots from going everywhere.
But this post is not about growth, it is about spike (marked with red arrow):

And it's not like it is first spike I ever discovered here. There was already one few months ago, but it is still at the same stage as I found it. I hope this one maybe go somewhere.

Here are two spikes visible, maybe first one was just waiting for second one to bloom together?

Freaky stuff

I had vanda pumila group of small plants mounted on one piece of wood for a while. This was one of not too many mounted orchids that I was able to keep happy and growing even in low humidity, but I had to water it every day (sometimes I missed a day or two, but plants didn't compain much).
Few days ago I decided to hang it into orchid tank hoping that being mounted it would benefit from humid conditions there.
After just couple days something disgusting grew on the wood:

Looks like some kind of shroom and I don't know if it is harmful to orchids.
Of course I totally freaked out and removed the mount from the tank. Now the questions are - will the rest of the orchids in the tank be ok and what to do with vanda pumila mount.
I am thinking about destroying the shroom and wiping everything, even roots, with something like alcohol or peroxide.
Would that work? Will that be enough?

Vanda pumila

The small group of Vanda pumila plants on a piece of wood grew a lot of new roots since the last update.

Even though they are mounted and supposed to be watered every day, I must admit that sometimes I do forget about them, but they never complained.

I am wondering how far they are from blooming size.

Vanda pumila update

I just wanted to log the update on this family of Vanda pumila residing on tiny piece of wood, the only mounted orchid I have.

It gets watered every day by lukewarm tap water in the kitchen sink. There is noticeable growth: couple new leaves, many new roots on both sides of the wood, since the last picture on arrival.
I think it looks happy...

Vanda pumila

This will be probably the cutest vanda display I ever had. Little wooden log with several small vandas mounted. The tag shows name vanda flavobrunnea, but I think most commonly used name of this plant is vanda pumila, so I am logging it under Vanda pumila name here.
It lives hanged on eastern window where it gets bright light with not much of direct sun.
