Draculas disappointment

I got two new dracs last spring to try out - chimaera and simia. Just to see if I can grow them. They live in the basemnet where it is cooler than the rest of the house.

Well, they didn't die and do try to grow but here is what happens with new growth:



It is Dracula chimaera.
New growth starts, grows, grows and then becomes all ruffled. Then it just breaks off the plant. This is third new growth that came out with ruffles. Why??!!
Dracula simia does almost the same, well, her leaves are narrower, but same idea. The only dracula that grows normally - lotax.

I do let moss to go bone dry between waterings, maybe that is the problem?

I am going to keep it wet at all times now and see how the newest little nubbing turns out. If it will ruffle too - no more draculas for me!

Phal. Chang Maw Evergreen 'U-Bix' x P. {Tzu Chiang Litlitz x P. (Buena Jewel x Peach State Red)} x P. (Su-An Super Star x George Vasquez) second bloom

Second flower opened on Phal. Chang Maw Evergreen 'U-Bix' x P. {Tzu Chiang Litlitz x P. (Buena Jewel x Peach State Red)} x P. (Su-An Super Star x George Vasquez) today and I like it better than the first one:



I like everything about this phal- the color of the blooms, the shape and the smell.
There is one more bud on the same spike and the whole new spike is coming out. Hopefully there will be more blooms to enjoy.

Two bastianiis

I was actually getting one plant, but there was two plants squished together in one pot. I had to untangle their roots to separate one from another. It could have been compot that was left as is.
So here they are.

Phalaenopsis bastianii:

I don't think they are ready to bloom yet, since they both look like seedlings to me, but website about orchid species lists it as small sized phal.

Phalaenopsis Tzu Chiang Crisna

Phal. Tzu Chiang Crisna is a large seedling:



Now looking at the picture here I realized that I should have cleaned the leaves from those ugly hard water spots after repotting.

There are some named clones of this hybrid, I saw pictures of at least two of them -Phal. Tzu Chiang Crisna 'Nancy' and Phal. Tzu Chiang Crisna 'Fuller'. Both are quite nice.
Mine didn't have any additional names in the label, so it probably won't look like any of those two, but should hopefully be pretty anyway.

Bulbophyllum ambrosia

Bulbophyllum ambrosia is my very first bulbo. I got it because of the miniature size and sweet fragrance. Apparently some bulbos can have unpleasant smells - I would like to avoid those.



At first sight I thought that I got two separate plants with one and two p-bulbs each, but when re-potting I realized that they all belong to one same plant and there is a runner connecting farthest bulb to the rest.



I was surprised to see how fine and fragile the roots are, and probably damaged some of them when removing old moss.
If this one survives some time under my care, I will get more bulbos. So far on my list are:
Bulbophyllum frostii - miniature with flowers looking like dutch shoes and Bulbophyllum sumatranum - for their large striking blooms.
They both are available from J&L Orchids that will be visiting Montreal show in October.
