Haraella retrocalla

This is just an update on my mounted plant of Haraella retrocalla. It grew significantly since I mounted it and even has a basal keiki now:



There are two new spikes but no flowers yet. It seems like buds do not develop fully and open up as green little things. I have no idea why it is happening and am getting really disappointed with this plant.

I am not even sure if it is a flower or not, but it does appear on one of the Haraella retrocalla spikes and did develop like a bud at the beginning:






Here is the story.
This haraella did bloom normally last winter. After blooming I cut all the spikes and placed it into low light location to encourage some leaves and roots growing and stop it from continuous blooming.
Haraella produced several new leaves and many roots, but then it did throw two new spikes.
Now I think that I should have moved it into brighter light when I noticed the spikes, but I didn't. So, maybe this strange underdeveloped bloom is result of the low light supply. At least that's what I am blaiming it on.
If there is more proper explanation - I would like to know it.
I didn' use any chemicals or hormons on this plant except ocasional watering with quarter strength solution of balanced 20-20-20 fertilizer that I use on all my orchids.
I am puzzled...

Haraella retrocalla is spiking

Totally unexpectedly I have a great success with mounted Haraella retrocalla.
After it bloomed last fall, I cut off all the spikes because I wanted it to grow some roots and leaves.
And it surely did.
Now there are two new spikes coming.
I will let it bloom.
It is mounted on to the piece of grape wood that I got from the pet store.

Looks like both of my haraellas are establishing well on their mounts.

The larger one finished blooming and I was glad to see couple of green tips on the roots and activated spindly old spikes. It had some moss around the roots at first but I noticed signs of rot under moss, so I took it off and just water it twice a day.






The smaller one is on the large piece of driftwood with couple phal. seedlings. All the roots have active growth points and just recently it started a new leaf.

Haraella retrocalla remounted and blooming

Haraella retrocalla bloomed, and it looks beautiful, and fragrance is wonderful.
Previously I mounted it on clay pot, but it seemed that I put too much sphagnum on the mount, so it looked and smelled too wet.
I removed sphag from the pot and put pot into saucer with water hoping that porous clay pot will drag the water and supply the roots.
It could probably live happily that way but yesterday at the pet store I got a bag with five pieces of grape wood.
I took the nicest one and mounted my Haraella retrocalla on it. I wasn't sure if she should be mounted face up or face down, so I put her sideways and let her decide which way to grow.

There are four more small pieces of grape wood, I am going to use them to mount my mini-phals.

Reading about Haraella retrocalla it always seems that everyone is suggesting it does better mounted. I have no suitable wood to mount it, but inspired by a thread on Orchid Board about mounting orchids on the clay pots, I came up with this:



And yes, there is a giant bud on my Haraella. The suspicios growth from the previous post dried up and fell off but whole new bud came up. It was half-burried in the moss, so I discovered it when mounting.
Now Haraella retrocalla is proudly sitting atop of her clay pot on the humidity tray between other 'chids:

Haraella retrocalla is growing something

There is something suspicious started to grow on one of the old spikes on my Haraella retrocalla. Some roundish nub on the left, but not a the very end of the spike. I would like to think that it is a bud that will eventually become a flower, but to be sure - should wait and see.

Haraella retrocalla

I got this adorable Haraella retrocalla barerooted, wrapped in some moss. Unwrapped it showed lots of roots below the plant and some spindle growth going up above in different directions. I am not sure whether they are roots or spikes, probaly just roots.



I have read that Haraella retrocalla does good in terrariums. Since I don't have one, I decided to place it into a glass bowl with some moss at the bottom.



Also tiny keiki droped out of main plant, it is potted separately and looks very fragile.
